Your First Visit

When you arrive for your first acupuncture appointment you will be asked to complete a comprehensive intake form. The acupuncture intake form asks questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Oriental medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything is interrelated.

After reviewing your intake form, we will discuss your condition further clarify any questions you may have. A quick examination may be taken of your pulse and tongue, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine.

Acupuncture is an individualized type of medicine. No two people are the same, therefore no two treatments are alike. The acupuncture points chosen for your treatment will depend on your condition and comfort level. Once the needles are inserted, the patient is to relax and lie comfortably anywhere from 15-30 minutes. We provide you with a bell if you are nervous or uncomfortable for any reason or simply want us to check-in. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.
